We began meeting in 2008, gathering a small group of people who had a heart to form a community that reflected church as we see it in the Bible.

We want to see Jesus transform our city with His love, care for each other as Christ cares for us, and impact Lancaster with the gospel. Find out more below…

City Church is led by an eldership team, who take responsibility for leading, teaching, pastoring and protecting the church as we see in the New Testament.

Scott Lingard leads the eldership team and is responsible for the direction of our teaching and worship in church. He is involved with Into the Word, an initiative for those hungry to dig deep into Scripture. Scott is married to Katy and has three children – outside church, he works for the NHS as an accountant.

Rob Horn has a focus in the team for developing leaders for future church plants. Rob is a part of the Christ Central apostolic team, serving churches in the UK and across Scandinavia by encouraging congregations and teaching foundational values. Rob is married to Jo and they have five children.

Our vision is to grow in worship, in community and in the gospel.

We believe Jesus wants us to grow as individuals and He wants His church to grow. In personal terms, we seek discipleship, sanctification, purity and growth in gifts and servanthood. Corporately, we are passionate about seeing people within our church grow, gathering more worshippers, seeing many people saved and planting many churches.

Growing in Worship

We believe in the incarnate, crucified, resurrected and ascended Son of God. The whole Bible points to Jesus, and He is the centre point of human history. Our church is centred around Jesus; we worship Him passionately in spirit and in truth, and believe He encounters and changes people today through the Holy Spirit.

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
Philippians 3:8

He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation,
Colossians 1:15

Growing in Community

We want a community which is authentic, not fake. Relational, not religious. Grace-filled, not lawful. Jesus wants His church to be united, quick to forgive and accepting of difference. We want to build a community where people feel at home and are welcome – church is not just a group of friends, but a spiritual family of brothers and sisters, and we want to love each other as such. This is not restricted within the four walls of a church building, but is something that impacts those around us.

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour.
Romans 2:12

Growing in the Gospel

At City Church, we believe the good news about Jesus is a message that the world needs to hear. This message is the focus of our mission – Jesus is passionate about the lost, and so are we. We outreach in different ways; for example through small groups, friendships, Alpha courses and outreach events. On the last Sunday of each month we run our Cafe Church service, where we preach the gospel in a meeting aimed at non-Christians.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16

We believe God wants us to build a large and thriving church that raises up leaders and plants churches. Since we began meeting in 2011, we have planted two other churches:
